WHITE GOLD

WHITE GOLD

White gold is an alloy of gold and at least one white metal, usually nickel or palladium. Purity of white gold is also measured in carats. While alloys of gold and nickel are hard and solid, therefore used for making rings, alloys of gold and palladium are soft and flexible, therefore are used as a basis for precious stones. The highest quality white gold has at least 17 carats and it is made out of gold and palladium, sometimes with traces of platinum which is added so that alloy can have a bit more weight and in order to have a better durability.
While some of alloys of white gold maintain their shine, most of them are needed to be coated with a very thin layer of rhodium.
