The most important thing is how you treat your own jewellery and how you maintenance it. Gold is relatively soft material, therefore it demands your care. If jewelry is made as a hollow, slight blow will dent it or tear it apart. It is very important to take off your jewellery before you go to sleep or shower. Few women have that habit, but you must try to attain that usefull habit. In that way your jewelry will last longer and it is less likely to get damaged, and you’ll sleep better and more comfortable, without a feeling that something bothers you.
Your jewelry will look nicer and it will shine more if it is clean. The best way to clean the jewelry yourself is to put it in the metal container with water and a bit of a washing powder. The container must be heated afterwards until the water start to boil. As soon as the water starts to boil stop heating it and leave the jewelry in warm water until it cools down. Afterwards, use your toothbrush to gently wash your jewelry. Than with a gentle stream of lukewarm water wash out the jewelry and dry it with soft flannel or cotton cloth.
If you are not satisfied how you cleaned your jewelry or there is a deeper scratch, ask your goldsmith to clean it for you in certain way they do it. This technique should be avoided, because in that way you take of a tiny layer of gold of your jewelry, and as time passes by it gets more thinner.
