This is a french gold coin of 20 francs from the period of the Third republic otherwise known as the golden coin “Marianne”, which got its name by character of a young women whose image is on the back side of the coin.
Marianne is a national symbol of the French Republic which symbolizes freedom and common sence.
The coin is also known as “the rooster” because on the front side of the ducat an Gallic rooster is stamped, who is also one of the symbols of France.
On the front side of the coin, around the rooster there is a inscription:”LIBERTE-EGALITE-FRATERNITE” which means freedom-equality-fraternity. Value of 20 CHF (francs) is written in the bottom centre part divided by rooster’s legs. At the bottom the year of publication is written.
The weight of the coin is 6, 45 grams and fineness of gold is 900, which means that it contains 5,8065 grams of pure gold. Diameter is 21mm, and the thickness is 1,3mm.
